Introducing John Perell, Director, Friends of the Smithsonian
Describe yourself in 140 characters.
Self-diagnosed history and music junkie with an affinity for Black Labs, home cooked food, sharing good times, friends and family, and renovating homes with my partner of 12 years.
What is your favorite place at the Smithsonian?
Haupt Gardens – The Gardens are serene and showcase the beauty of the world we live in.
What is your favorite thing/object at the Smithsonian?
Only one? Hmmm…Mitsitam Café at NMAI. An amazing tour of native American foods.
If you could have any other job at the Smithsonian what would it be?
Since this is my dream job, I am not sure I want another. But if I had to choose I would be a master gardener.
What are you most excited about working here?
The ability to engage and excite people about all that Smithsonian has to offer.
What do you have planned for the future of Friends of the Smithsonian?
I would like to bring Smithsonian to more members and donors. A major component of that is to partner with our supporters to take our mission even further. And to bring Smithsonian to life for our friends near and far.
Why should someone join Friends of the Smithsonian?
The Smithsonian is a uniquely American enterprise, combining diverse fields of study, to enrich and improve the lives of not only the citizens of America, but the citizens of the world. Members make that possible. Who wouldn’t want to be a part of that?
