Culture in Crisis
Meet Corine Wegener, Cultural Heritage Preservation Officer in the Office of the Under Secretary for History, Art, and Culture. Ms. Wegener organizes the Smithsonian's emergency outreach role to assist with the preservation of cultural heritage sites when museums, galleries, archives, libraries, and places of archaeological importance are threatened by natural disasters and human conflict.

American Enterprise
Join us for a behind-the-scenes view of the dynamic new exhibition, American Enterprise, which opens July 1st. Exhibition curator Peter Liebhold will discuss the ways in which American Enterprise uses objects, graphics, and interactive experiences to examine the United States’ transformation from a small dependent nation to one of the world’s most vibrant and trend-setting economies. An exclusive tour of the exhibition follows the presentation.

Our 3rd program on September 17 features Dr. Rick Potts, Curator of Anthropology at the National Museum of Natural History, and the Director of the Smithsonian’s Human Origins Program. Dr. Potts is a leading scientist in examining human evolution and how human adaptations emerged in times of environmental change.

Life of A Mansion
This year, a new fourth program expands our series to New York City. The Smithson Society will take a day-trip to explore the exciting renovations of Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum. Enjoy an exclusive presentation led by Smithsonian historian Heather Ewing, author of the James Smithson biography, and museum Director Caroline Baumann.
We hope that you will be able to join us for these lectures as we explore the Smithsonian’s vast collections and hear from individuals whose work enables us to achieve our vision.
