Permanent Hall Closing: Life in the Ancient Seas
Life in the Ancient Seas will close permanently on September 30, 2013 as we begin the Fossil Halls renovation. Over 1,000 marine fossils, including trilobites, a mosasaur, and an early penguin will remain on view for three more months! Plan your family's visit this summer.

Deep Time
Travels to the Hell Creek Formation
Smithsonian vertebrate paleontologist and curator of dinosauria Dr. Matthew Carrano is leading the design of the new paleobiology exhibition at the Museum. The current Fossil Halls will be completely renovated and replaced by a state-of-the-art new exhibition.

This summer, the Deep Time exhibit development team goes to the field in search of late Cretaceous fossils for our new exhibition. This expedition to North Dakota will be led by the Museum's director, Dr. Kirk Johnson.
