44th Annual Smithsonian Folklife Festival, Thursday through Monday, July 1-5

This year’s festival features “Smithsonian Inside Out”—your chance to get behind-the-scenes, ask questions, and experience what Smithsonian staff are working on, from caring for moon rocks to studying adobe houses. On Monday, July 5, the National Museum of American History invites children to explore music and sound innovations of the past and create their own musical instrument with a new twist.

Join the ScoutQuest Adventure, Saturday and Sunday, July 24-25

Uncover links between scouting and some of our greatest national treasures with a city-wide scavenger hunt open to all youth. Celebrate the Boy Scouts of America’s 100th anniversary and learn about the Star-Spangled Banner, the flag that inspired the national anthem.

Children Become American Citizens at Flag Day Ceremony

On June 14, USCIS Director Alejandro Mayorkas administered the Oath of Allegiance to 24 children from 18 different countries at a special citizenship ceremony held at the Museum.

New Acquisition: Suicide-Prevention Phone

The Museum has acquired a phone from Dutchess County, N.Y., one of two installed on the Mid-Hudson Bridge in Poughkeepsie in 1984 and connected to a 24-hour help hotline. The phone is an example of American ingenuity in technology and in how we care for one another.
