Digital Discoveries: World War II

WORLD WAR II

This programming season, the National Air and Space Museum is launching monthly themes — every month, brand new digital content and educational programming will focus around a specific topic, providing a varied look at the different parts of the story. This September our theme is World War II, in commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the end of the war.

"World War II: The Flying Frontier"
Dive into stories of planes, people, and missions of World War II in a new Google Arts & Culture collaboration. Learn more about the role aviation played in the war and step inside World War II aircraft in our collection. Start exploring.
STEM in 30 Episode for Students
Looking for resources to teach your kids about World War II? Check out our most recent webcast episode for middle schoolers, "Victory Over Japan and the End of WWII." Then tune in September 10 at 1 pm EDT for a live chat about the Women Airforce Service Pilots.
Photo Collection: World War II in Color
How often have you seen color images of World War II? While not impossible to find, they are considerably rarer than black and white photos. We have digitized thousands of stunning color photographs from WWII that provide a new look at the conflict. Explore the photos.
Virtual Family Day: World War II
This month we're launching our Soar Together @ Air and Space series of family programming. Join us online September 11 and 12 for scavenger hunts, story times, and other activities celebrating the diverse groups and people who helped end the global conflict. Mark your calendar.
Explore more World War II content, including blogs, videos, and artifacts, on our World War II theme page.
