Claudia West is a sought after speaker on topics such as plant community based design and the application of natural color theories to planting design. In her latest publication, Planting in a Post-Wild World, West, together with co-author Thomas Rainer, presents a new approach to ecological planting design.

Although industrialization and urban sprawl have driven nature out of neighborhoods and cities, West urges us to invite it back by designing landscapes that look and function more like they do in the wild: robust, diverse, and visually harmonious. Learn more from West as she shares her optimism and dedication to a new idea of nature – a hybrid of both the wild and the cultivated.

Offered as part of the Anthropocene: Life in the Age of Humans 3-part series “Landscapes of the Anthropocene”, which explores our relationship with the land that sustains us. To see more programs, visit the Anthropocene: Life in the Age of Humans homepage.
