City Nature Challenge -iNaturalist Mall Crawl

Join experts from the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History in scouring the National Mall to photograph organisms with the iNaturalist app. You don’t need any special knowledge about nature to contribute observations, but do bring a mobile device to run the iNaturalist app.  Just take a picture of a plant or animal, or fungus - our experts will help you onsite and the online community will help identify which species it is.

This is an outdoor activity with moderate walking. Dress for the weather!

This event has been organized in conjunction with the City Nature Challenge 2017, a nationwide effort to find and log plants and wildlife taking place April 14-18 in 16 cities across the country. Any observation in the greater metropolitan area of D.C. will count during the five day challenge, so if you cannot join us on the Mall, consider helping put DC on the map for biodiversity by making observations on your own: http://www.inaturalist.org/projects/city-nature-challenge-2017-washington-dc-metro-area

Space for the Mall Crawl is limited and cannot be guaranteed. Please note that the group will depart promptly at 10:00 a.m.

We're sorry, the deadline for registering for this event has passed.
